Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a term used to describe a therapeutic approach where an instrument is used to “scrape” or mobilize skin, fascia, muscles, tendons, and even the nervous tissues.
Scraping is typically performed for 2-5 minutes per treatment area. It is believed that by scraping tissues that have adhesions and/or restrictions, gliding of these tissues is restored, and a relief in tensile forces in the myofascial system is achieved.
At PARC we proudly utilize the RockBlade instrument for our IASTM treatments. Our Doctor of Physical Therapy is a RockBlade certified specialist and Functional Movement Taping (FMT) certified provider.
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective manual therapy technique, that involves applying sustained pressure into the myofascial tissue in areas of restrictions, to restore motion and eliminate pain.
